Radio Days Museum Traveling Time Machine
The Radio Days “Theater of the Mind” Museum in downtown Sutherlin is launching our 2022 Traveling Time Machine Tour and we n
eed your help! We invite you to join us by sponsoring this successful program for residents of assisted living facilities and retirement homes throughout Douglas County and hopefully other communities as well. The Traveling Time Machine exhibit consists of themed objects reflecting the variety of genres in the Radio Days Museum collection. Your support will allow us to bring the experience of our rare museum directly to individual communities.
Our museum has a large collection of radio memorabilia from the 1930's, 40's and 50's. Thousands of the elderly in our communities fondly remember sitting around the family living room radio listening to their favorite shows. The Traveling Time Machine brings these cherished memories back to life by not only showing off amazing objects from the Golden Age of Radio, it’s also an effective version of “reminiscence therapy” for those who might be suffering from memory loss and other age-related illnesses.
The benefits of reminiscence therapy through The Radio Days’ Traveling Time Machine can be far reaching. Independent studies have shown that elders can become isolated from their identities as their memories begin to falter. Our touring collection is a way to connect with long-ago memories that help rewire a path to familiarity.
Like you, we believe that every person in a retirement home or assisted living facility deserves to live a meaningful life, free from boredom and stress, and above all one with dignity, increased of self-worth and a sense of belonging in the world.
