There could not possibly be a person alive today who has not heard, at some point in their life, of the Lone Ranger. Almost everything about the show became famous: the music, the silver bullets used by him, the great horse Silver and Tonto’s horse Scout. The program was conceived by George W Trendle and written by Fran Striker.
- Radio brought the news directly into listeners’ living rooms. Among the major news stories broken on radio: the Scopes monkey trial, carried live by Chicago station WGN in 1925; the Hindenburg zeppelin disaster, covered by WLS Chicago in 1937; and Edward R. Murrow’s CBS reports on the Blitz of Britain, airing in 1940.
